This story assumes that readers are familiar with Màiri and her family. If you are not, then before spending time reading this novella, I suggest first you get, Free, no newsletter signup, "Christmas in Glasgow", which is a very short story that Màiri readers adore, from this link https://books.katedarroch.com/12DaysofChristmas If you don't like "Christmas in Glasgow", then you won't like this story either, trust me on that! But you'd probably read on anyway, because you'd want to know what happened next. You would not believe it, but people often email me saying something like "I thought TITLE was a rotten story and you shouldn't have let XYZ happen, plus the characters were stupid, but I couldn't put it down bcoz I had to know what happened next." I beg you, please don't waste your time reading a story you won't like and then ruin my day by emailing me to tell me you didn't like it. Please read the freebie, and/or the sample; and only apply for this story if you liked 'em. Let us suppose that you ignore my advice and read the story anyway, and you think, "I don't want to review this story badly becoz Kate did tell me I wouldn't like it and I ignored her, but also I don't want to fail to review it becoz I promised I would, and maybe I get a black mark from StoryOrigin." I promise you, you will not get a black mark from StoryOrigin OR me if you drop me a line saying, "I should have listened to you" which I shall with astonishing insight realise means that you didn't like the story. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping that a secret between you and me. I'd love you not to review if you don't like my story. What happens in this story? The same thing that happens in any Màiri at Home story. She is quietly enjoying time with her family and friends when an incredibly unlikely danger descends upon her, with a puzzle at its heart. Màiri solves the puzzle, and averts the danger - at least the danger to her, other people... well, maybe, maybe not.
